Nancy Shapiro is a member of Koskie Minsky's commercial litigation department with a practice focused on employment law. She received her LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1996 and was called to the bar in 1998. She has been a member of the firm since 1999. Nancy represents both employers and employees in issues surrounding hiring, termination, discipline, disability, constructive dismissal, and management including the preparation and negotiation of employment contracts and the preparation of employment manuals. Nancy also actively represents clients with issues involving director and officer liability and errors and omissions as well as shareholder issues in the context of employment relationships. Nancy is also on the LawPro preferred counsel list and offers representation to lawyers in errors and omissions cases involving this subject matter. While Nancy is highly results oriented, her ability to source efficient and cost-effective methods of providing legal services, including the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution techniques, distinguishes her in her chosen area of practice. Nancy's clients appreciate her honesty, creativity, enthusiasm and solid work ethic. She is a strong believer in applying an individualized approach to reflect each client's need in the context of the ever-evolving commercial and legal environment. Nancy is involved in the business community through membership in the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario (HRPAO) and the Canadian Association of Women Executives and Entrepreneurs (CAWEE). Nancy dedicates time to Continuing Legal Education Program development through her work on the Main Continuing Legal Education Committee of the Ontario Bar Association and her former role of co-chair of Young Lawyers' Division Continuing Legal Education Committee. Nancy is a frequent speaker at conferences and seminars, is the co-author of the firm newsletter entitled 'Employment News' and a contributing author to numerous articles which have appeared in publications including The Litigator and "The Lawyers Weekly".
