ANDREW J. HATNAY is a partner in Koskie Minsky's Pension and Benefits Group and advises clients on legal issues affecting pension plans and employee benefit plans. He has expertise with pension plan mergers, wind-ups and pension and benefit issues that arise in merger, acquisition and bankruptcy situations. He is also a litigator and represents employees and unions in insolvency and bankruptcy proceedings before all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada. He has advanced the interests of employees in the insolvency proceedings of Eaton's, Dylex, Cotton Ginny, Irwin Toy and other companies, and has assisted in solving the pension problems associated with the restructurings of Algoma Steel and Stelco. He is currently involved with the insolvency proceedings of Ivaco and General Chemical. He was successful counsel in the precedent-setting case of Re T.C.T. Logistics where the Supreme Court of Canada held, among other rulings, that a collective agreement remains in force in insolvency proceedings. Andrew obtained his law degree from the University of Ottawa and has a Master of Laws degree from McGill University. He is a director of the Multi-Employer Benefit Plan Council of Canada (MEBCO), an interest group that advocates on behalf of multi-employer pension and benefit plans.
