Date Name Description
October 5, 2010 CAW-Chrysler Retiree Health Care Settlement

Koskie Minsky LLP acted for the Canadian Auto Workers in the $1.3 billion settlement with Chrysler Canada Inc. The settlement provides for retirees’ formerly represented by the CAW to participate in the Auto Sector Retiree Health Care Trust. Over 10,000 former CCI workers and their spouses and dependents will participate in the asrTrust.

The asrTrust is the first “employee life and health trust” in Canada. The negotiation and settlement involved amendments to the Income Tax Act that provide for more efficient pre-funding of retiree health care benefits.

Murray Gold led Koskie Minsky’s team advising the CAW on the settlement, assisted by Roberto Tomassini and Simon Archer, and Jonathan Ptak on litigation matters. Norman Tobias provided tax counsel.
