Labour Law
The Labour Law group at Koskie Minsky is recognized as one of Canada’s pre-eminent union-side legal teams serving union, workers and professional groups in the public and private sectors. We are recognised as among the leading experts in construction industry labour relations, having represented unions in all aspects of the construction industry. We also have broad experience representing clients in the entertainment, public, manufacturing, retail food, health care, education, communication, and airline sectors. While our practice is centered in Ontario, our lawyers are frequently consulted by trade unions across Canada and have appeared on their behalf before labour boards and courts in other provinces, and in the federal jurisdiction.
Our Labour Law clients include both small independent and local unions, as well as large Canadian and international trade unions with thousands of members across North America. We represent our clients’ interests before arbitrators and arbitration boards (including both rights and interest arbitrations), labour boards and other specialized tribunals. As well, we represent our clients before all levels of the provincial and federal courts, and the Supreme Court of Canada, on matters such as judicial review, injunction applications and Charter of Rights issues.
On behalf of our clients, we routinely prepare and present submissions on labour law and policy issues to governments, legislative committees, royal commissions and task forces.
Members of the Koskie Minsky Labour Group regularly and routinely write, teach and lecture on various labour related subjects at universities, law schools and professional continuing education programs, in addition to various internal education and training programs for our clients and their members. We also present the Koskie Minsky University Lecture in Labour Law at the University of Western Ontario Law School, which has featured leading scholars and jurists ranging from Professor Henry Arthurs to Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin.
